“Bones And All,” Horrific Love Story

“I am asking my audience to join this journey; it’s about discovery. Who are these people? Why do they behave as they do? What are they learning? And in so, what do we learn about ourselves?” director Luca Guadagnino.

Bones and All is a story about the first love.

Maren, played by Taylor Russell. She is a young woman learning to survive on society’s margins. Lee, played by Timothée Chalamet, is an intense and disenfranchised drifter.

Maren and Lee meet, hook up and begin a thousand-mile odyssey that takes them through the back roads, hidden passages and trap doors of 1980s America.

Maren is born with a secret and driven by an inexplicable hunger outside all normal human bounds, cannibalism. Unable to be like others, she has long felt like an irredeemable outcast moving from town to town.

When her heartbroken father decides he can no longer help her, Maren has no choice but to head out on her own. Then she discovers she is not alone. There are others like her. Others know this same overpowering need.

Others, like Lee, are small-town rebels. Lee helps Maren survive and grows closer to her. He sees her beyond her forbidden desires, even as they become dangerously vulnerable to one another.

But despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and to the last stand that will determine whether their love can survive their otherness.

“Escape Room” Trailer, Featurette, & Poster

Screenplay by Bragi Schut and Maria Melnik with the story by Schut and directed by Adam Robitel, Escape Room is a psychological thriller that follows six strangers. Each one finds themselves in circumstances beyond their control. They must use their wits to find the clues or die.

The ensemble cast includes Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, Tyler Labine, Nik Dodani,  and Yorick van Wageningen.

Robitel directed a horror movie called The Taking of Deborah Logan, which won him an iHorror Award for Best Direct Release Film.  Schut scripted Season of the Witch and episodic TV shows while Melnik scripted episodic TV shows from Black Sails to American Gods.

The interview with Jay Ellis and Deborah Ann Woll explains the story behind the movie. It appears to have a tinge of horror.  Also, there are brick and mortar places called Escape Rooms, and they are fun as a group outing.

The featurette explains the movie and compares the story to a real escape room.

Simplistic, Strange “Down A Dark Hall” Trailer and Poster

Directed by Rodrigo Cortes, Down A Dark Hall follows Kit, played by Anna Sophia Robb. She is a problematic young girl, and her temper makes it difficult for her mother to take care of her.

Hence, she ordered to the mysterious Blackwood Boarding School. She arrives at Blackwood and faces the eccentric headmistress, Madame Duret, played by Uma Thurman. She also meets the school’s only four other students. They, too, are young women headed down a troubled path.

While exploring the labyrinthine corridors of the school, Kit and her classmates discover that Blackwood Manor hides an age-old secret rooted in the paranormal.

Based on the classic gothic YA novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. Duncan also authored I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Isabelle Fuhrman, Victoria Moroles, Noah Silver, Taylor Russell, and Rosie Day round out a talented cast.

The movie is now streaming on Amazon if you want to check it out.

The author of Twilight and The Host, Stephenie Meyer, produced the movie. Cortés also directed the film Buried. They are calling Down A Dark Hall a supernatural thriller. But it sure seems like a horror movie. Watch the trailer, and you’ll see what I mean.
