“The Man Who Invented Christmas” Trailer, Poster, Movie Clips & Featurette

Directed by Bharat Nalluri, The Man Who Invented Christmas follows the magical journey of Charles Dickens, played by Dan Stevens, which led to the development of one of the most classic characters in literature – Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Christopher Plummer. The classic story includes other well-known characters such as Tiny Tim.

Watching this trailer and being a writer, I find myself caught up in the irony of Dickens creating one of the most celebrated stories ever.

The movie is based on the book by Les Standiford, who is also a historian and has written several books on poignant times in history.  Nalluri also directed Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day, which did quite well at the box office.

The Man Who Invented Christmas entertains the story of how Charles Dickens mixed real-life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration we know today.

I am delighted to see Outlander alumni, Scottish actor Bill Paterson, who plays Ned Gowan, Simon Callow, who played Duke of Sandringham, and Annette Badland, who played Mrs. Fritz.

I watched the movie with my daughter, and we completely enjoyed the movie. It’s a wonderful movie to watch during the holiday season because Dickens’ message come through loud and clear. Christmas is a time to be with friends and family while helping those who are less fortunate.  The movie is available on Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming. My daughter and I watched it on Prime.

The trailers and clips did not do the movie justice. It is truly entertaining while learning about the life of Dickens.

I saw a great little clip where Dickens struggles to concentrate in a household of children. It such a fun movie to watch during the holidays.

This looks like a fun movie to see during the holiday season.

It is wonderful to see the process of such a great writer.

Great Featurette, the movie gets under Dickens’ skin.

“Just Getting Started” Trailer

Written and directed by Ron Shelton, who brought us Tin Cup and Bull Durham, Just Getting Started follows Duke Diver, played by Morgan Freeman. Duke is a freewheeling manager of the luxury Palm Springs resort, the Villa Capri.

The story is about a Diver who might have a mysterious past. Yet, he is on top of his game because he’s a pro at ensuring that life for the high-spirited residents is one big, non-stop party. But the existing state of affairs is challenged when ex-military charmer Leo, played by Tommy Lee Jones, checks in, triggering a competition between Duke and Leo for the top spot of Alpha male, as well as for the affections of the newly-arrived Suzie, played by Rene Russo.

Duke’s past unexpectedly catches up with him, and Leo and Duke put aside their differences. The two men reluctantly team up to stop whoever is trying to kill Duke and save Villa Capri.

Additional cast includes Jane Seymour, George Wallace, Joe Pantoliano, Glenne Headly, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Graham Beckel and Elizabeth Ashley.

“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Trailer, Clips, and Featurettes

Directed by Martin McDonagh, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a dark comedy that follow Mildred Hays, played by Frances McDormand, who after months have passed without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case, makes a bold move, commissioning three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, played by Woody Harrelson. Apparently, Willoughby is the town’s revered chief of police but it such doesn’t look like it in the trailer.

When Willoughby’s second-in-command Officer Dixon, played by Sam Rockwell, an immature mother’s boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing’s law enforcement is only exacerbated.

This is a great interview about an actor’s process of being the character.

The trailer is hilarious and fun to watch, but I still feel Hays’ pain of losing her daughter without the police doing anything about her murder.

The story begins with Mildred Hayes and the three billboards she rents on Drinkwater Road. “I decided the buyer of the billboards was an aggrieved mother and from there, things almost wrote themselves,” McDonagh recalls. “Mildred was someone strong, determined and raging, yet also broken inside. That was the germination of the story.”

Frances McDormand is exceptional to watch in the trailer and clip as a modern, female variant of the classic western hero in a showdown-style performance. “I really latched onto John Wayne in a big way as my physical idea, because I really had no female physical icons to go off of for Mildred,” she explains. “She is more in the tradition of the Spaghetti Western’s mystery man, who comes walking down the center of the street, guns drawn, and blows everybody away — although I think it’s important that the only weapons Mildred ever uses are her wits and a Molotov cocktail.”

“I could see it in her walk and her attitude,” says McDonagh. “I think John Wayne did become a touchstone to a degree for Frances. But I also see Brando and Montgomery Clift in there, too.”

Here is a featurette describing McDonagh’s work.

I saw the movie last night. It is well-written, but the ending is not uplifting. I wanted the characters to find and closer.

My daughter found an article about how the movie is based on a real-life incident of a grieving father “advertising” on three billboards about how the Vidor, Texas police botched their investigation into her murder.

“Wonder Wheel” Trailer

I am so excited about Woody Allen’s movie Wonder Wheel because the story follows Kate Winslet’s character, who is surrounded by talented actors like Jim Belushi. Watch him in this trailer, and Justin Timberlake.

I look forward to hearing more about this movie, which is usually hush-hush regarding Allen’s latest movie.

I saw the movie on Amazon Prime, and the comedy aspect of the movie is nonexistent. The only remotely funny part is Timberlake’s character because he is so self-centered.

This is the second time Woody Allen has shown psychiatry for what it is—fake.  The son goes to a psychiatrist for counseling, but it gets worse. The husband, Belushi’s character, practically calls them a quack.

The poster shows the Ferris wheel in the background with Winslet in the forefront.  This is so cliche, but it communicates the message of the movie. Enjoy the trailer.

“The Star” Trailers, Music, and Vignettes

Directed by Timothy Reckart, The Star follows a small but brave donkey named Bo, voiced by Steven Yeun. He yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day, he finds the courage to break free, and finally, he goes on his dream adventure.

On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, voiced by Aidy Bryant, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become unlikely heroes in the most incredible story ever told—the first Christmas.

These are fun to watch, but their language is a bit too modern for the time period.

Enjoy the Vignette about the voice actor for Bo, the donkey.

The list of stellar voice actors is astonishing.

Short Animated Movie, “Puppy!” Trailer

The new animated short Puppy! directed by Hotel Transylvania‘s Genndy Tartakovsky, is attached to The Emoji Movie. In the short, the residents of Hotel Transylvania find their world turned upside down when youngster Dennis gets a surprise monster-sized pet.

“Home Again” Trailer

Directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and produced by her mother Nancy Meyers, Home Again follows Alice Kinney,  played by Reese Witherspoon.  She decides to start her life over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters.

Watch the trailer and you will see it is a cute, funny and romantic movie similar to Hallie’s mother’s movies like Something Gotta Give. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance

With that, during a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance come to a crashing halt when her ex-husband, played by Michael Sheen, shows up, suitcase in hand.  is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners.

This is a fun movie to watch with no seriousness – just plain romping.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” Trailers and Vignette

Directed by Jake Kasdan, son of Lawrence Kasdan (Body Heat), who also directed Bad Teacher, Zero Effect, and Sex Tape, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle follows a breakfast club theme where four teenagers end up as avatars in the Jumanji game.

The teenagers discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.  Nick Jonas plays one on the teenagers. The trailer is fun to watch since the avatars are against type.

What teenagers discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever. If you haven’t seen the first Jumanji, then you wouldn’t know how to play the game.

I have to mention the first move because it is awesome and still available with Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst starring.

The newest poster is funnier. It really shows the characters. This could be a fun movie because giving it a Christmas release date shows the studios are banking on it being successful at the box office.  But, box office success doesn’t always mean a fun movie.

“A Bad Moms Christmas” Trailers, Clips, Interviews, Blu-ray/DVD

Co-directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, we are in for more bad mom movies. The movie follows best friends Amy, played by Mila Kunis, Kiki, played by Kristen Bell, and Carla, played by Kathryn Hahn, unburden more stress during the holidays when their respective mothers come to visit.

The Blu-ray/DVD is on the streets even though it is nowhere near Christmas. Somehow, I think you will agree with me. Let’s wait and watch the movie until Christmas. But, if you are an early Christmas shopper, you can get the package now.

With that, here are the two trailers for A Bad Moms Christmas. One of these trailers is a Red Band trailer.  The Red Band trailer is funny. I am laughing!

These clips are so funny that I just have to post each one. Have a good laugh!
