“Lee” Trailer and Image

I had the pleasure of meeting Ellen Kuras at a film festival, where we were both on a panel discussing women and minorities in film. It was shortly after 9/11, and Kuras talked about her experience. Living across the water, she invited friends who had no place to stay after the horrific incident to her large home. Together, they watched the smoking rubble. Surprisingly, Kuras said it was both depressing and healing.

Since the film festival, Kuras and I stayed in touch at first, with me lining up an interview with a now defunct film website. The last time I heard about her was when she received an Oscar nomination for the documentary The Betrayal, which she co-wrote and co-directed while also being the cinematographer. Kuras has won many awards for her cinematography.

Kuras directs Lee based on a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller, played by Kate Winslett. Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most memorable images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub.

Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price. This forced her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.

The supporting cast includes Josh O’Connor, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Alexander Skarsgård and Marion Cotillard.

When I saw Kuras had directed this film, I felt super excited for her and delighted for her success.

“Titanic: 25th Anniversary” Trailer and Poster

James Cameron’s Titanic is a timeless love story. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet look so young. It’s hard to believe the film hit theaters 25 years ago.

Enjoy its re-release in movie theaters this Valentine’s Day.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” Trailers and Images

Directed by James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water first trailer arrived 13 years after the first Avatar appeared on the screen, and we experienced the glowing vistas of Pandora.

Jake, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, have their own family now, involving Na’vi kids Lo’ak, played by Britain Dalton, Neteyam, played by Jamie Flatters and Tuktirey, played by Trinity Bliss. But there is also a human child, Mile Socorro, nicknamed Spider, played by Jack Champion.

The sequel offers adventures with deep dives into Pandora’s oceans and epic combats, typical of Cameron’s movies.

Producer Jon Landau told Empire, “This time around, we’re taking Jake and Neytiri and building the most universal theme of all around. Which is family. Jake comes from the human world, and Neytiri from the Na’vi world. So, they’re like a modern mixed-race couple, raising kids who perhaps feel they don’t belong to one world or another.”

The rest of the cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Van Diesel and Giovanni Ribisi.

Avatar 2 arrives in movie theaters in December 2022.

Wonder Wheel Trailer

I am so excited about Woody Allen’s movie, Wonder Wheel because the story follows Kate Winslet character, who is surrounded by such talented actors as Jim Belushi, watch him in this trailer, and Justin Timberlake.

I am looking forward to hearing more about this movie, which is usually hush-hush regarding Allen’s latest movie.

I saw the movie on Amazon Prime and the comedy aspect of the movie is nonexistence. The only part that is remotely funny is Timberlake’s character because he is so self-centered.

This is the second time Woody Allen has shown psychiatry for what it is – fake.  The son goes to a psychiatrist for counseling but gets worse. The husband, Belushi’s character, practically calls them a quack.

The poster shows the Ferris wheel in the background with Winslet in the forefront.  This is so cliche but communicates the message about the movie. Enjoy the trailer.

“The Mountain Between Us” Trailer and Poster

Directed by Oscar nominee Hany Abu-Assad, The Mountain Between Us stars Oscar winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba.

Beau Bridges has a small part but he is good.

The movie follows two strangers who are stranded after a tragic plane crash.  They must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow-covered mountain as they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness discovering strength they never knew possible.

This looks like a movie worth watching as long as it has a happy ending.  I am a sucker for any happy ending.
