“Honey Don’t!” Blends Mystery and Satire

HONEY DON’T! is a dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.

Honey Don’t! is a comedy film directed by Ethan Coen and co-written with Tricia Cooke. The story is a continuation of the collaboration between Coen and Cooke, following Drive-Away Dolls. The film displays their quirky wit and playful approach to genre.

Twists, Secrets, and Strange Characters

The film is a neo-noir dark comedy and mystery focused on private investigator Honey O’Donahue, played by Margaret Qualley. The story tracks O’Donahue’s efforts to unravel the mystery of several odd deaths associated with a bizarre religious cult in Bakersfield, California.

Small-Town Private Detective With a Dangerous Case

As Honey digs deeper, she encounters the shady church leader Reverend Drew Devlin, played by Chris Evans. She even encounters a mysterious woman, corrupt figures, and unconventional locals. The film deliberately fuses detective noir, absurd comedy, crime, and queer romance, giving it a unique, pulpy B-movie style. The tone is similar to the Coen brothers’ crime comedies.

Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls” Trailers, Images, Clips and Posters

Ethan Coen directs the screenplay by Tricia Cooke, Drive-Away Dolls.

It’s a comedy caper that follows Jamie, played by Margaret Qualleyan, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend. Her demure friend Marian, played by Geraldine Viswanathan, desperately needs to loosen up.

You might have seen Viswanathan in Natalie Krinsky’s The Broken Hearts Gallery, where she wears the same angst expression. The film also stars Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.
