“The Many Saints of Newark” a Prequel Hews the “Soprano” Storyline

Directed by veteran Soprano’s director, Alan Taylor, The Many Saints of Newark is not about saints. The meaning centers on Dickie Moltisanti, Christopher Moltisanti’s father. In English, Molti Santi translates as “many saints,” according to IMDB trivia.

The trailer pretty much says it all. Rumors it’s a look at the formative years of New Jersey gangster Tony Soprano. Written by Lawrence Konner and David Chase, Chase created the storyline and characters for the famous series.

Also, according to IMDB, Michael Gandolfini will play a young Tony Soprano. His late father, James Gandolfini, played the original Tony Soprano. Another tidbit from the same source, Ray Liotta appears in the movie. He was the first actor approached to play Tony Soprano before they cast James Gandolfini for the popular series that change how we view cable TV.

“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” Unlock the Horrors

Story by James Wan, screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and directed by Michael Chaves, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It reveals a chilling tale of terror. Based on a true story, the film follows real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. They witness a murder and unknown evil that shocked even the Warrens.

One of the most sensational cases from their files starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

James Wan directed The Conjuring 2, where the Warrens investigated a paranormal situation in London. So, it appears they haven’t retired yet.

“Captive State” Trailers

Co-written and directed by Rupert Wyatt, Captive State is a science fiction story in a Chicago neighborhood. After being occupied by an extra-terrestrial force for nearly a decade, the story explores the lives of those caught in a conflict between the collaborators and dissidents.

Wyatt’s directing credits include The Gambler, The Escapist, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes—the movie stars John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, and Machine Gun Kelly.

The latest trailer shows more of the story, but still, it is hard to tell what is going on in the movie. Sure, some aliens are ruling Earth. It is hard to tell who the good guys and bad guys are. Goodman seems to be a bad guy, but there are shots of him appearing to be fighting the aliens.

“The Front Runner” Trailer, Featurette & Posters

Directed by Jason Reitman, The Front Runner is based on a true story starring Hugh Jackman. Jackman plays the charismatic politician Gary Hart in a movie that might prove to be a  thrilling drama.

The movie focuses on the rise and fall of Senator Hart, who captured the imagination of young voters and was considered the overwhelming front-runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was sidelined by the story of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice.

American experienced its first taste of tabloid journalism while political journalism merged for the first time. Senator Hart was forced to drop out of the race – events that left a profound and lasting impact on American politics and the world stage.

The movie is available on Blu-ray/DVD and is streaming as well. So, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, nows your chance or you can see it again.  I recommend seeing the movie because Hugh Jackman is such a brilliant actor.

Also starring Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons, and Alfred Molina, The Front Runner is written by Matt Bai & Jay Carson & Jason Reitman, based on the book “All the Truth is Out” by Matt Bai.

The featurette captures the feel of the movie.

The movie trailer depicts the era when Gary Hart’s fiasco occurred. Today, this type of situation seems to happen once a month. When in fact, Hart’s is the first ever for ruining a political career.

The second poster shows more of the story behind the movie. Jackman looks to the side and tries to avoid being hounded by the press or the situation that is out of control.

Watching the trailer and knowing Reitman, I sense a bit of wit and sarcasm.

Boundaries Trailers, Movie Clips, and Poster

Written and directed by Shana Feste, Boundaries follows single mom Laura, played by Vera Farmiga, along with her 14-year-old son Henry, played by Lewis MacDougall, is forced to drive Jack, played by Christopher Plummer, her estranged, care-free pot-dealing father across the country after he’s kicked out of yet another nursing home.

The movie is a road trip that veers off course when Jack decides to visit a couple of friends.  Henry requests to see his ne’er-do-well dad Leonard, played by Bobby Cannavale.

Laura feels her life is appetite over a tin cup and she doesn’t know if she will hold it together. I am guessing the movie comes full circle and she sees her father for the man he really is.

The studio is calling this trailer a “soft” trailer. You be the judge.

The latest trailer explains the story better and is more clear about the father and daughter relationship contention.

Christopher Plummer is so good in the movie clip. He can play the deceitful grandfather brilliantly.

Here is a soulful movie clip with Vera Farmiga and, I believe, Bobby Cannavale.

Christopher Lloyd and Peter Fonda also star in the soul-searching movie about family.

“The Commuter” Trailers, Clips, Blu-ray/DVD Trailer

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, The Commuter follows Michael Woolrich, played by Liam Neeson, who is in the midst of his daily commute. He is an insurance salesman—a typical guy who used to be a cop. A mysterious woman on the train contacts him. She forces him to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on the train before the last stop.

The movie has a great cast, including Elizabeth McGovern from Downton Abby, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Sam Neil.

Just watching the trailer, I can tell the movie is suspenseful. Neeson is so good at playing these types of roles. It is unique for him to play an everyman, not some high-skilled gunman who has a kidnapped daughter.

The Commuter’s Blu-ray/DVD combo pack hits the streets with two never-before-seen featurettes that focus on the cast’s experience shooting the film and the technical details of shooting on a train.  The trailer is so intense.

I saw the movie on my flight from Denver to Sacramento. The movie started off well but was predictable.  If you want to kill a couple of hours on a phone, this is the movie to watch.

The movie clip below shows the intensity of Liam Neeson.

Here is the final trailer.

The domestic trailer doesn’t look all that different. What do you think?
