Apple TV “Sugar” Trailer and Poster

Starring and executive produced by Colin Farrell, Sugar seems a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture, and television history.

It’s a private detective story that follows John Sugar, played by Farrell, an American private investigator on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel.

Olivia is the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he will also unearth the Siegel family secrets, some very recent and others long-buried.

“The Banshees of Inisherin,” Trailers and Images

Set on a fictional, remote island off the west coast of Ireland, The Banshees of Inisherin follows lifelong friends Pádraic, played by Colin Farrell and Colm, played by Brendan Gleeson.

They find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly ends their long-term friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán, played by Kerry Condon, and troubled young islander Dominic, played by Barry Keoghan, endeavors to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer.

But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve, and when Colm delivers a desperate request, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences.

Written and directed by Martin McDonagh, who has worked with Farrell and Gleeson several times, he is a well-known Irish playwright and screenwriter.

“One of the things I love about Martin’s writing is that it lacks malice,” continues Farrell. “Some of the characters he presents to the audience can be incredibly malicious and cruel, and some of the events can be beyond the pale in regards to the macabre, but I never detect any maliciousness from the writer, the voice, the creator of it.”

Farrell and Gleeson worked together in the film In Bruges, which McDonagh wrote and directed. The movie permitted Farrell and Gleeson to develop a shorthand, and McDonagh wanted to bring them back together again.

Along came The Banshees of Inisherin, written especially in mind for Farrell and Gleeson to star. “As an actor, you’re looking for someone who has a unique voice, an original way of articulating thoughts and feelings and creating characters and whole worlds. It’s lovely when you come across a writer that establishes a world that has its own kind of order and sense of aesthetic (sic). Martin’s voice can be extraordinary.” Gleeson describes McDonagh as fearless. “He goes into these awful places finally, armed with compassion and empathy.”

“Thirteen Lives” Gripping True Story from Ron Howard

Of late, Ron Howard has directed a couple of documentaries and is now taking on a true story about a soccer team and their coach trapped in a Thailand cave. Some say the incident is the greatest rescue mission in history.

Watching the trailer shows how intensely Howard’s style comes through with two powerful actors, Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell. Joel Edgerton also brings a lot of strength to the movie.

Imagining what it took to film this movie in Thailand is fantastic. Included is a photo of Howard directing the boys. The climate looks grueling. What is Ron Howard drinking?

Thirteen Lives will play on Amazon Prime a week after it hits the theaters, so get ready to stream. As most moviegoers know, Amazon purchased MGM, and here is one of Amazon’s first releases from the buyout.

The film recounts the amazing true story of the tremendous global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team who became trapped in the Tham Luang cave caused by an unexpected rainstorm. Faced with insurmountable odds, a team of the world’s most skilled divers can uniquely navigate the maze of flooded, narrow cave tunnels.

They join up with Thai forces and over 10,000 volunteers to attempt a harrowing rescue of the twelve boys and their coach. With impossibly high stakes and the entire world watching, the group embarks on their most challenging dive yet, showcasing the limitlessness of the human spirit.

“The Batman” Pattinson’s Brings the Vengeance Forward

Co-written, co-produced and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman follows the cat-and-mouse game between Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, the Riddler, played by Paul Dano, and Commissioner Gordon, played by Jeffrey Wright.

The cast is enormous, with Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, and Zoe Kravitz, as Catwoman.

Matt Reeves’ credits include Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes. He also worked with J.J. Abrams on the TV series Felicity.

Science Fiction “Voyagers” an Unusual High-Tech Bonanza

Voyagers

Written and directed by Neil Burger, Voyagers is about the future of humanity at stake. A group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and explore their most primitive natures.

As life on the ship descends into chaos, they become consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power. The film stars Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, Chanté Adams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Viveik Kalra, Archie Madekwe, Quintessa Swindell, Madison Hu and Colin Farrell.

The storyline and a young adult cast helmed by Burger seem like a sure-fire hit. Burger’s movie credits include Limitless, starring Bradley Cooper, about a man who takes a pill and has unlimited mental capacity. Eddie soars to the top of the financial world. Still, the philosophical aspect of Burger’s touch proves that going up the pole without naturally developing your talent is socially and spiritually dangerous. The Illusionist is another well-crafted movie by Burger, where the protagonist steps out of the natural realm of progression and defies convention.

So, what happened to Voyagers?

Some of the reviewers say it’s Lord of the Flies in space. I beg to differ, though I can see why they think it. Kids are trapped alone without adult supervision and socially self-destruct. The book’s author, William Golding, put boys on the island, contrary to the spaceship with girls and boys. Perhaps the reviewers only read the Cliffnotes instead of the whole book, according to the teacher’s instructions. There is an adult onboard the space vessel — Colin Farrell.

Perhaps the secrets kept from the crew fell flat. Or, similar to Limitless, unnatural elements that cause supreme powers based on their breeding for intelligence and obedience are complex for teenagers, predominate audience, to believe.

Look at Voyagers today. It’s available at most streaming outlets.

“The Gentlemen” Posters and Trailers Wild, Crazy Story

Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, The Gentlemen is a star-studded sophisticated action-comedy. The movie follows American Mickey Pearson, who is an expat, played by Matthew McConaughey, who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London.

The movie is streaming Amazon and is available in Blu-ray and DVD formats.

When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery, and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.
The all-star ensemble cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant.

The movie trailer shows random acts of killing and silliness. I hope the audience will be able to follow the story.

The second trailer shows how crazy and ridiculous the movie plays out. If you watch the trailer, you will not know anything about the story. The dragon analogy doesn’t make sense.

The featurette shows a cast and crew having a bloody good time.

“Artemis Fowl” Trailers, Featurette, Poster

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Artemis Fowl is based on a popular book series by Eoin Colfer. It appears all the actors in the movie are from the UK.

Ferdia Shaw plays Artemis Fowl II, a young Irish criminal mastermind who kidnaps the fairy LEPrecon officer Holly Short, played by Lara McDonnell, for ransom to fund the search for his missing father.

Michael Goldenberg, Adam Kline, and Conor McPherson scripted the fantasy, action, and adventure movie. Goldenberg’s credits include Peter Pan, a great movie and a secret gem, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Contact.

Shaw is a newcomer, but McDonnell has starred in other movies. The movie also stars Judy Dench, Miranda Raison, and Hong Chau.

The following trailer shows a lot more about the movie. If you read the books, hopefully, the story stays the same as much as possible.

It is not your typical kid story; the featurette explains how it came to the movie screen.

Now, we have a television commercial.

Colin Farrell is excellent in this scene.

“Dumbo” Poster, Trailers, Interviews, Clips & Featurettes

Directed by Tim Burton, live-action Dumbo looks like one of the best movies for the whole family this year. I am sure the box office will be pleased. The screenplay is by Ehren Kruger, who wrote all those Transformer movies. I find that ironic because Dumbo is nothing like a Transformer.

I am glad the original theme song is part of the live-action movie. The cartoon movie is a classic with an extraordinary message about overcoming your handicap and succeeding. During the movie trailer, I never saw the mouse. But Pink Elephants on Parade is in the movie. The tiny clip in the trailer looks like the show will be fun to watch.

The movie stars Eva Green, Colin Farrell, and Michael Keaton. I am not sure who the kid actors are, but I look forward to learning more about them.

I wonder if the blackbirds will be in the movie as well. I love that scene, even though it doesn’t fit in with the PC standards of today. They are so funny with lines like, “I’ve seen a housefly. I’ve seen a horsefly. But, I have never seen an elephant fly.”

The second trailer is even better. Burton created a movie for kids to watch. By watching the second trailer, it appears the story becomes somewhat altered. A dad and other adults were not in the original Disney version. But, the adults seem to have a purpose in the movie, which makes it okay. The theme song is the same.

With that, there is a trailer. My YouTube account has a note that says it’s blocked worldwide. It might not play for you. I am sorry, but I had to write about this movie because Dumbo is one of my favorite Disney movies.

Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming are available for those who want to watch the movie again or haven’t seen it yet. The film is excellent for kids who want to see it repeatedly.

The featurette “Soaring to New Heights” offers quite a bit of information about the remake of Dumbo. I thought I saw a mouse in this video, and I am curious if the mouse plays an essential role in this new version. I sense that Danny Devito’s character fills that part of the story where the mouse encourages Dumbo to fly or the kids do.

Watching Tim Burton talk about Dumbo is impressive. He is so animated and a complete genius. Burton almost says something about working with Disney and stops. I wonder what he wanted to say about Disney.

The following movie clips show Dumbo flying, sinister DeVito and Keaton, and the kids, Farrell and Green.

The interview with Farrell shows him upbeat and excited about the movie and working with Burton.

Green talks about how she overcame the fear of heights to play the flying traipse artist. She talks about what it is like working with Burton and Keaton.

Michael Keaton tells it like it is in this interview with spoilers.

The featurette is magical, and I can’t wait to see the movie.

Dumbo is a magical story about a unique elephant who loses his mother. He must overcome the obstacles in life to be with his mother and succeed as himself. The next featurette expresses the brilliance of Burton and his magical world.

The next featurette arrives several days before the movie’s release in the US with all the interviews and footage combined.

“Widows” Trailers, Movie Clips, Poster & Blu-ray/DVD

Directed by Steve McQueen, who won an Oscar for directing 12 Years a Slave, and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl, follows four women who are widows. They share a circumstance of having a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities.

The story is a contemporary thriller located against the setting of crime, passion, and corruption. Taking place in Chicago, amidst a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica, played by Viola Davis, Alice, played by Elizabeth Debicki, Linda, played by Michelle Rodriguez, and Belle, played by Cynthia Erivo, take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.

Here are two more movie trailers.  We get the gest of the movie, now. These women take charge of their lives and it’s payback time.

The movie also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.

The three movie clips so how fast the movie moves. I hope this is true throughout the movie. I viewed some interviews with the actors, screenwriter, and director.  Each actor praised the director, McQueen. You can see these interviews on my YouTube Channel.

The movie clip tells us more about the story and why these ladies decided to turn themselves into tough chicks.

The official second trailer tells the story, and I am excited and can’t wait to see it.

The two trailers are similar but one is a red-band trailer, which means it is for mature audiences.

The Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming are available.  Purchasing the Blu-ray package is nearly 60-minutes of bonus content, with three documentary featurettes filled with in-depth interviews and raw on-set footage detailing the compelling production story of the movie.
