“Firestarter” Based on Stephen King Novel

Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative, played by Michael Greyeyes, becomes deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.

Drew Barrymore played the girl with the powers in the first movie. The CGI special effects will prove most beneficial as a popcorn thriller with the technology today.

“Death on the Nile” Takes Another Stab at Agatha Christie

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Death on the Nile continues the mystery series from the books by Agatha Christie.

Detective Hercule Poirot investigates another murder. This time the murder of a young heiress aboard a cruise ship on the Nile River.

The stellar cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Emma Mackey, Annette Bening and Russell Brand.

“The Unforgivable” Stars Bullock and Davis

Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, The Unforgivable follows Ruth Slater, played by Sandra Bullock, who just got out of prison for killing someone.

She re-enters society and tries to connect with your younger sister. Her only chance of redemption is the connection with her sister, who she was forced to leave behind.

Her sister’s adoptive mother, Viola Davis, wants nothing to do with Ruth. But, her husband, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, seems to feel she has redeeming qualities and goes against his wife’s wishes.

It’s based on the story of the Yorkshire award-winning drama Unforgiven, a mini-series about a young woman released from prison for murdering two police officers. Now, she wants to find her younger sister.

The Netflix movie also stars Jon Bernthal, Richard Thomas, Aisling Franciosi, and W. Earl Brown.

“The Batman” Pattinson’s Brings the Vengeance Forward

Co-written, co-produced and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman follows the cat-and-mouse game between Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, the Riddler, played by Paul Dano, and Commissioner Gordon, played by Jeffrey Wright.

The cast is enormous, with Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, and Zoe Kravitz, as Catwoman.

Matt Reeves’ credits include Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes. He also worked with J.J. Abrams on the TV series Felicity.

“Cyrano” Ultimate Classic Love Story Twists Perspective

Directed by Joe Wright, Cyrano comes to the movie theaters once again with a different perspective. With Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina, and Pride & Prejudice on his resume promise the new version of a classic story resplendent with songs and dancing will consume audiences.

Wright’s style envelops us in a symphony of emotions with music, beauty and romance. Cyrano reimagines the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. Cyrano de Bergerac, played by Peter Dinklage, a man ahead of his time, dazzles others with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with exceptional swordplay in a duel.

Yet, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne, played by Haley Bennett, Cyrano has not declared his feelings for her. And Roxanne has fallen in love with Christian, played by Kelvin Harrison, Jr.

Spielberg’s “West Side Story” Reopens a Modern Day Tragedy With Splendor

Produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, West Side Story follows the original 1961 film version from the original 1957 Broadway musical penned by Arthur Laurents, with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and concept, direction, and choreography by Jerome Robbins.

Tony winner Justin Peck choreographed the musical numbers in the film. The music team includes conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and composer and conductor David Newman arranged the score.

The cast includes Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, Ana Isabelle, Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James, Curtiss Cook, and Rita Moreno.

Elgort and Zegler play the lead roles — Tony and Maria, as young lovers of forbidden love and the clash between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.

Moreno starred in the 1961 film as Anita. In the current version, she plays Valentina.

“Wrath of Man” Trailers, Poster, and Clips

Wrath of Man

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Wrath of Man follows a mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard, played by Jason Statham. He surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills.

The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes apparent as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.

The film has an impressive cast, including Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonso, Raúl Castillo, DeObia Oparei, Eddie Marsan and Scott Eastwood.

The screenplay is by Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Marn Davies based on the film “Le Convoyeur,” co-written by Nicolas Boukhrief and Éric Besnard and directed by Boukhrief.

Monumental “Dune” Perspective Absolutely Timely and Startling

Based on Frank Herbert’s book and directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune follows Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet, who goes on a mythical and emotionally charged journey. Paul is a brilliant young man born into a destiny beyond his comprehension.

He travels to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure his family and people’s future. Malevolent forces explode into conflict over the pant’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s most significant potential. But it is those who can conquer their fear that will survive.

Villeneuve co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. Hans Zimmer composes the music for the science fiction film. The rest of the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.

“Tom & Jerry” Amazingly Flips Exciting Genuine Cartoon

Directed by Tom Story, Tom & Jerry stars several voice actors, which is a concern. The original classic cartoons had no dialogue, and it entertained kids of all ages. Why change it?

All is not lost since the feature film uses archive recordings of William Hanna. Hanna performed all the original shrieks, howls, screeches, yells, gasps, and screams heard in the cat and mouse cartoons of 1942 to 1957.  

The second theatrical movie is the first rendition as live-action and animation. It is Warner Bros.’s first animated/live-action hybrid movie. It’s been 28 years since the release of the first Tom and Jerry in 1992.

The voice actors include Michael Pena, Chloe Grace Moretz, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost. The script is by Kevin Costello based on William Hanna and Joseph Barbera characters.  Costello’s screen credits appear limited with Brigsby Bear and one episode for the Jean-Claude Van Johnson series.

After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter, played by Armie Hammer, a newly married young woman, played by Lily Jame, arrives at Manderley.

Her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley’s sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers, played by Kristin Scott Thomas.

The mesmerizing and gorgeously rendered psychological thriller based on Daphne du Maurier’s beloved 1938 gothic novel.
