Magical “Luca” Challenges the Imagination Startling and Astonishing Story
Directed by Enrico Casarosa, Luca is about a young boy, played by Jacob Tremblay. The story follows his experiences that include an unforgettable seaside summer along the Italian Riviera. Filled with pasta, gelato and endless scooter rides, Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend.
The catch is all the fun they have together barely holds together by a deeply held secret. They are sea monsters from another world — just below the ocean’s surface.
The story seems a mixture of Guillermo del Toro’s Shape of Water and Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo. Of course, Pixar holds back the complete plot of their stories until they’re released.
The screenplay is by Jesse Andrews and Mike Jones. The rest of the cast includes Maya Rudolph and Jack Dylan Grazer.
“Mortal Kombat” Immediately Competitive and Revolutionary
Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat follows an MMA fighter, Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, who is familiar with taking a beating for money. He is not aware of his heritage or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung, played by Chin Han, has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, played by Joe Taslim, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down.
Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade, played by Jessica McNamee, at the command of Jax, played by Mehcad Brooks, a Special Forces Major. He bears the same strange dragon marking Cole’s had since birth. Soon, Cole finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, played by Tadanobu Asano, an Elder God and Earthrealm protector, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark.
Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors. They are Liu Kang, played by Ludi Lin, Kung Lao, played by Max Huang and rogue mercenary Kano, played by Josh Lawson. He prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. But will the situation push Cole hard enough to unlock his arcana-the immense power from within his soul-in time to save the universe?
“Cruella” Promising Imagination
Directed by Craig Gillespie, an Australian best known for I, Tonya brings us a Cruella based on 101 Dalmatians.
In this live-action prequel feature, the story follows young Cruella de Vil, played by Emma Stone. We learn how Cruella became a fur lover and dog hater.
Dana Fox and Tony McNamara contributed to the screenplay. McNamara wrote The Favourite, which starred Emma Stone.
The film also stars Emma Thompson and Mark Strong.
Liberal Perspective of the Classic “Iron Mask”
Directed by Oleg Stepchenko, for the first time, screen legends Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan face off against each other in battle in this epic fantasy adventure, Iron Mask.
To save his homeland from certain doom, a kung fu master, played by Chan, must escape from the maniacal James Hook, played by Schwarzenegger, to send his daughter a secret talisman that will allow her to control a massive and mythical dragon.
This larger-than-life, globe-trotting tale – ranging from the impenetrable Tower of London to the fabled Silk Road and China’s Great Wall – also stars Rutger Hauer in one of the screen icon’s final performances.
The rest of the talented cast includes Jason Flemyng, Yao Xingtong, Anna Churina, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Martin Klebba, Charles Dance, and Christopher Fairbank.
“Nine Days” Combines Imagination and Destiny
Directed by Edson Oda, Nine Days follow Will, played by Winston Duke, as he spends his days in a remote outpost watching the live Point of View (POV) on TV of people going about their lives. Then one of them perishes, leaving a vacancy for a new life on Earth.
Soon, several candidates – unborn souls – arrive at Will’s to undergo tests determining their fitness, facing oblivion when deemed unsuitable.
But Will soon faces his own existential challenge in the form of free-spirited Emma, played by Zazie Beetz, a candidate, unlike the others. The situation forces him to turn within and reckon with his own tumultuous past. Fueled by unexpected power, Will discovers a bold new path forward in his own life.
The movie also stars Brandy Pitcher, Eric Ramaekers, and Eliza de Azevedo Brown.
Making his feature-film debut after a series of highly acclaimed and award-winning short films and music videos, Japanese Brazilian director Oda appears to deliver a heartfelt and meditative vision of human souls in limbo, aching to be born against unimaginable odds yet hindered by forces beyond their will.
“The Addams Family 2” Launching a Weird Zinger
Three directors, Greg Tiernan, Laura Brousseau, and Kevin Pavlovic, helmed the next Addams Family animated installment, rightfully called The Addams Family 2.
The Addams get tangled up in more wacky adventures and find themselves involved in hilarious run-ins with many unsuspecting characters. It looks like the same voice actors have returned for the sequel. The same cast includes Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Oscar Isaac.
“The Croods: A New Age” Daring to Compare to the Original
Directed by Joel Crawford, The Croods: A New Age is a sequel to the 2013 film called The Croods. In the first movie, we meet the first family, The Croods, of the prehistoric era. The Oscar-nominated comedy is about a clan dealing with their changing world, which captivated global audiences, reminding us of the family’s timeless importance.
With the sequel, we get to see just how little we’ve evolved with an all-new adventure back in time with The Croods: A New Age. Returning stars Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman, and Clark Duke welcome Leslie Mann and Peter Dinklage to the film’s cast as The Croods face their biggest threat since leaving the cave—another family.
“The Craft: Legacy” YA Startling Revenge
Written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, The Craft: Legacy continues Blumhouse’s cult hit The Craft. The story follows an eclectic foursome of aspiring teenage witches who get more than they bargained for as they lean into their newfound powers. You won’t catch this movie in the theaters as it’s set for on-demand.
