Written and directed by Fernando Leon de Aranoa and based on the book Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar by Virginia Vallejo, Loving Pablo follows Vallejo’s story about her relationship with Pablo Escobar. He happened to be one of the most powerful drug lords in Columbia. His terror and reign took Colombia down to utter chaos.
The movie brings husband and wife Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz together, which is a brilliant combination. Both are Oscar winners, and I know the acting will be excellent. Other cast members include Peter Sarsgaard, Julieth Restrepo, Maria Victoria Henao, David Valencia, David Ojalvo, and Giselle Da Silva.
Leon de Aranoa received accolades for his movie Mondays in the Sun. He is a Spanish director, and Loving Pablo is in English.
The movie trailer shows how the director captures Colombia’s culture. Viewers will need to keep this in mind as they watch the movie.
Directed by Kevin Connelly, Gotti stars John Travolta as John Gotti, Sr. and Kelly Preston as Vicky, Gotti’s wife. The movie follows the father and son, John Gotti, Jr. played by Spencer Lofranco. Gotti, Sr. lived and perished by the mob code of ethics. His son was raised to continue a life of crime. He decided to leave the mob and atone himself and the Gotti name.
The movie is an inside look at the Gotti family and Gotti, Sr. as the head of the Gambino crime family. The largest and most dominant crime organization in the country.
Kevin Connelly has a long list of acting credits from Entourage to The Notebook. He’s directed a few episodic television shows like Entourage and Unhappily Ever After. Gotti is his first major movie with megastars like Travolta and Preston.
The movie is written by both Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi. Dobbs credits include The Company You Keep and Haywire. Rossi is also an actor with a long list of credits like Sinatra Club and Gotti, playing Bobby Boriello. As a writer, Rossi only has two other screenwriting credits.
The movie trailer and clip so Travolta at his best. His wife, Preston, holds her own as well. Both the trailer and clip so very little of Lofranco. I am sure more movie trailers and clips are on their way. Lofranco will get his chance to show his acting chops. Lofranco movie credits include Unbroken and King Cobra.
Directed by Rob King, Distorted follows a young couple, played by Christina Ricci and Brendan Fletcher. They decide to leave the hustle and bustle of city life to the rural, luxury life at The Pinnacle.
The Pinnacle is not all that it is cracked up to be. There is something horrifically fishy about the tenants and living conditions. Ricci’s character, Lauren, befriends an investigator, played by John Cusack. Together, they try to uncover a possible brainwashing conspiracy at The Pinnacle.
The movie trailer is good and tells us the story. Back in my mind, I am thinking horror and suspense, but the studio is calling the movie “electric thriller.” You be the judge and watch the movie trailer.
Based on a novel by Darcy Bell and co-written and directed by Paul Feig, A Simple Favor follows Stephanie, played by Anna Kendrick. She is a mommy vlogger seeking to discover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s, played by Blake Lively, sudden disappearance from their small town.
Feig directed Bridesmaids and is used to comedy, so this storyline is different for him. I can see by the way the trailer’s edited there are some humorous undertones.
I saw the movie through Amazon Prime and found it to be delightful. Kendrick pulls off the best part for her in a big way. The film starts off a bit rough with the peripheral characters, but once the movie gets into the meat of the story, it is fabulous. I am so glad I saw it. I highly recommend it.
The movie is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming. Now is the time to see the film if you haven’t yet, or you want to see it again.
The second trailer shows more of what the story is about the sharp cuts of Stephanie upset and doing so off the wall stuff means Emily has a dark side or both do.
Several different posters were released. The one to the right is the latest. I still like the one above with the question mark collage because it communicates the mystery of the story. It is clever with a 1960s theme. The one on the right seems playful. With that, the movie is supposed to be a mystery but playful.
I am amazed at who many posters the movie is generating. I still like the question mark poster the best. But, the one with the fan design is pretty cool, too.
This is called a specialty poster, which I like. I am thinking about embedding the poster before my YouTube interviews with the cast and crew of A Simple Favor.
Directed by Marc Turtletaub, Puzzle follows Agnes, whose life is a puzzle she is trying to assemble. If you watch the trailer, you will agree with me. The movie is a metaphor for putting one’s life in order by mastering jigsaw puzzles.
Agnes, played by Kelly Macdonald, does that same thing every day, and her family takes her for granted. She discovers a love for solving jigsaw puzzles. She finds a new world of solving jigsaw puzzles. Her self-esteem builds until her life unfolds in ways she could never have imagined.
The movie clip shows the similarities of each character, which explains why they are drawn to each other and puzzles.
The movie clip below says about what puzzles can do for a person.
Watch the trailer, and you will see a beautiful story unfold. Turteltaub directed Little Miss Sunshine, which launched his career and several others. The Puzzle looks like a sleeper hit.
Written and directed by Michael Pearce, very little is promoted about the movie Beast. The story follows a young woman named Moll, played by Jessie Buckley – an Irish singer and actress. Moll lives in an isolated community with her domineering family. She meets a stranger named Pascal, played by Johnny Flynn – an English poet and musician. It is rumored that Pascal is a ruthless murderer with reports of young girls being murdered and then buried. Moll is torn between her family, the rumors, and Pascal’s true intentions. Horror is written all over this movie.
The movie received five nominations from different film festivals such as Best Screenplay at the Miami Film Festival, Best First Feature at the London Film Festival, and Platform Prize for Michael Pearce at the Toronto Film Festival.
The movie trailer is nerve-wracking, suspenseful, and horrific. Toward the end of the movie trailer, another character is introduced but I can’t tell for sure Could this be the real murderer?
The movie clip shows her getting even with her mother.
Written and directed by Drew Pearce, Hotel Artemis appears to be a black comedy. After watching the movie trailer, Jody Foster plays a nurse running a secret, members-only emergency room hospital. She mainly cares for criminals set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles.
Watching Foster in the movie trailer, I can tell it is science fiction, dark comedy, as she bumbles around talking about following the rules. Her character is not comely and looks weathered.
The movie includes several talented actors such as Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Zachary Quinto, and Sterling K. Brown. All appear as a bunch of misfits.
Drew Pearce credits include as executive producer of several televisions series like Damage Control and Lip Service. He received writer and screenplay credit, respectively, for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Iron Man 3.
Jodie Foster shines in this movie clip, as she will throughout the movie. I bet she had a great time performing as the nurse—a role made for her.
Filled with clips of different scenes is a movie trailer that is not telling us much, and I hope to see more footage so I can share it with you.
Co-written and directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, Mary Shelley tells the story of Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, played by Elle Fanning. She is the author of the well-known Gothic novel “Frankenstein.”
Godwin goes through a fiery, tempestuous relationship with celebrated romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, played by Douglas Booth. Both are outsiders constrained by polite society but bound by a natural chemistry and progressive ideas beyond their age and time.
Mary and Percy declare their love for each other, and much to her family’s horror, they run away together, joined by Mary’s half-sister Claire, played by Bel Powley.
A growing tension within their relationship builds during their stay at a friend’s house on Lake Geneva. The friend is Lord Byron, played by Tom Sturridge. Godwin conceives the idea of Frankenstein because all houseguests write a ghost story.
The author created an incredible character, which looms large in popular culture for centuries to come, but society at the time put little value on female authors. At age 18, Mary must challenge these preconceptions, protect her work and forge her identity.
Mansour is from Saudi Arabia and is the first female filmmaker in her country. Her work is controversial.
The movie trailer shows the love and tension between Mary and Percy. There are some quick references to Mary declaring authorship for “Frankenstein.”
Directed by Björn Runge and based on the bestseller by Meg Wolitzer, The Wife stars Glen Close as the movie follows her contemplations as a wife – Joan Castleman. Joan questions her choices as she travels to Stockholm with her husband, played by Jonathan Pryce, where he is slated to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Runge is from Sweden and is known for Harry & Sonja when he received two Guldbagge awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay in 2003. He also received the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear and Der Blaue Engel Prize.
The movie trailer suggests her husband is not supportive of Joan as she has been supportive of him. The final line in the trailer, “I am a king builder,” finalizes the overall premise of the story, which seems visceral, contemplative, and contemporary.
In this scene, undercurrents are rampant. It makes me think how naive and blind some men can be. Great scene!
This is a long clip, almost two minutes. It shows so much between all the characters and the story about the wife. Ironically, this scene feels endearing.
Christian Slater seems to play another writer or journalist who brings out Joan’s contemplations concerning her choices and her husband’s belittling and infidelity.
The movie clip below shows a wife who plays a big part in her husband winning the Nobel Prize.
Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, Under the Silver Lake follows a man named Sam, played by Andrew Garfield. He becomes obsessed with the strange circumstances of a billionaire mogul’s murder and the kidnapping of a girl named Sarah, played by Riley Keough, who is Sam’s new neighbor. Sam’s friend, played by Topher Grace, helps him with an investigation surrounding a missing woman – Sarah.
The movie appears to be a murder mystery and quirky with odd people in odd circumstances. Mitchell breakout movie was It Follows, a horror movie. Its world premiere was at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2014.
The Under the Silver Lake movie trailer is a bit choppy like the poster. The story seems intriguing because of the mysterious woman and the quirky people Sam comes across in his effort to solve the mystery.
