“News of the World” Tremendous Story, Unconditional Friendship

News of the World

Directed by Paul Greengrass, News of the World follows Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, played by Tom Hanks. It’s five years after the end of the Civil War, and he is a veteran of three wars, now moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, sharing the news of presidents and queens, glorious feuds, devastating catastrophes, and gripping adventures from the far reaches of the globe.

In the plains of Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna, played by Helena Zengel, a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. Johanna, hostile to a world she’s never experienced, is being returned to her biological aunt and uncle against her will.

Kidd agrees to deliver the child where the law says she belongs. As they travel hundreds of miles into the unforgiving wilderness, the two will face tremendous challenges of human and natural forces as they search for a place they can call home.

Greengrass co-wrote the screenplay with Luke Davies based on the National Book Award finalist and best-selling novel by Paulette Jiles. The film’s music is by eight-time Academy Award® nominee James Newton Howard.

Watch Tom Hanks command a convoy

Survival and Unparalleled “Greyhound” Trailer and Poster

Watch Greyhound starring Tom Hanks.

Written by and starring Tom Hanks and directed by Aaron Schneider, Greyhound follows captain Ernest Krause, played by Hanks, in the early days of WWII. Krause commands an international convoy of 37 Allied ships as his first command of a U.S. destroyer.

They cross the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats. The story originates from actual events and the novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester.

Also starring in the movie is Elisabeth Shue, Rob Morgan, and Stephen Graham.
Make sure you watch the trailer because the movie is intense and visceral.

“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” Trailer, Clips, Featurettes & Posters

Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers is perfect casting.

Only Tom Hanks can play Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Watch the trailer, and tears will form. The kindness and generosity of Hanks are distinguished to portray one of the most well-known icons in children’s television.

Directed by Marielle Heller, who brings emotional rhythm to movies like Can You Ever Forgive Me? – nurturing Oscar-nominated performances from Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant.

The studio calls this movie “a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism,” based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.

After a jaded magazine writer, Junod, played by Matthew Rhys, is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Inspired by the article “Can You Say. . . Hero?” by Tom Junod, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster turned the story into a screenplay. Both writers worked together on the episodic show Transparency and the movie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

The rest of the exceptional cast includes Susan Kelechi Watson and Chris Cooper.

The featurette is a deserving message about a man who wanted people to be happy with themselves. It was okay to have feelings.

After viewing this featurette, all I want to do is see the movie.

I hope this movie changes people’s hearts, and they see the good in everyone.

Watching Tom Hanks in the next three clips is a treasure. He is such a fine actor and makes the movie believable.

“Toy Story 4” Trailers, Clips, Interviews & Poster

Pixar never tells us the movie’s story in their trailers. They keep us wondering about the movie’s story, which I find refreshing. The trailer for the Pixar movie Coco never told us how the young boy had to figure out how to get back to living. The movie’s trailers showed us a magical world of candy skulls and music.

Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming are available. You don’t want to miss the chance to own this movie. All Toy Story movies are classics, and this one is extra special because Bonnie is now the new owner of Woody and his gang.

Story by John Lasseter and directed by Josh Cooley, Toy Story 4 looks like a road trip movie. IMDB posts the summary: “When a new toy called “Forky” joins Woody and the gang, a road trip alongside old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy.” The site hosts four videos and some fantastic images. Forky is an arts and crafts toy with pipe cleaners as arms and hands and a plastic spoon for a body, which is clever. I get it; it’s so funny.

Watching the teaser trailer, you get the idea that Forky is a little high-strung.

The second trailer is a cute little skit of two stuffed animal toys talking about the fourth installment of Toy Story. Jordan Peele is one of the voices. If you don’t recognize him, it is because he is the director of the Horror movies Get Out and Us. Thinking about it, it is hard to believe this franchise changed the film industry. We take these movies for granted, and the entertaining story of Woody and his friends.

The third trailer tells us about the fourth movie. It starts as a road trip and ends in a toy playground. The craft fork is funny and cute. I noticed Keanu Reeves is added to the credits as “voice,” but nothing more.

I laughed so hard a couple of times while watching the movie trailer. Until I saw this trailer, my hopes for this movie were low. Pixar has done it again.

Tim Allen’s interview is funny, provocative, and informative. It is one of the best interviews out of the bunch.

Tom Hanks’s interview is interesting because he talks about the plight of being a toy and Woody’s relationship with Bo Peep.

The four movie clips introduce us to new toys. Each unique toy has a goal and a flaw, but we don’t see many of their dreams or flaws except Forky. He thinks he is trash and not much of a toy, but he is so cute. Keneau Reeves voices Duke Caboom. Gabby Gabby is the villainess in the story, with the ventriloquist dummies as her henchman. Each clip offers a chance to see the interview with the voice actor of that character — just clip on the video when it comes up toward the end of the clip.

“The Circle” Trailers and Poster

the-circle-posterBased on the international bestseller by Dave Eggers and directed by James Ponsoldt, The Circle stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. What a combination to behold. Watson’s career is really doing well after her Harry Potter days.

The Circle is a thrilling modern morality tale following Mae, played by Watson, as she rises through the ranks of the world’s largest tech and social media company. She’s encouraged by company founder Eamon Bailey, played by Hanks, to live her life with complete transparency. But no one is safe when everyone is watching.

The trailer seems a bit convoluted without giving the story away or reading the book.  It is hard to tell what is happening, but I can’t agree more with the idea that knowledge is power.

The story looks intense, and  Emma Watson appears well with Tom Hanks.
