Starring Pete Davidson

Directed by Judd Apatow, The King of Staten Island follows Scott, played by Pete Davidson. A case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. Scott is now in his mid-20s with very little achieved, chasing his dream of becoming a tattoo artist that appears never to come true.

His sister, played by Maude Apatow, is a complete opposite, ambitious, heading off to college. Scott still lives at home with his exhausted mother, an ER nurse, played by Marisa Tomei.

Scott’s days include smoking weed, hanging with the guys, Ricky Velez, Moises Arias, Lou Wilson, while secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey, played by Bel Powley.

Then, his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray, played by Bill Burr, which sets off a chain of events. Scott’s life spins and forces him to grapple with his grief and take the first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.

Also cast in the movie Steve Buscemi as Papa, a veteran firefighter who takes Scott under his wing. Pamela Adion also stars as Ray’s former wife, Gina.

Davidson is a former SNL member taking on Apatow’s movie as a comedy about laughter, loss, and love on Staten Island. Apatow, Davidson, and former SNL writer Dave Sirus wrote the script.

“The Dead Don’t Die” Trailer and Poster

Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, The Dead Don’t Die takes place in a peaceful town of Centerville. The inhabitants find themselves battling an enormous amount of zombies as the dead rise from their graves.

Focus Featurettes is calling this more “the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled.” The all-star cast includes Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, and Tom Waits.

Jarmusch worked with both Murray and Driver in Broken Flowers and Paterson respectively.

Watching the trailer is so funny. I bellied laughed and laughed. The cast must have had a great time filming this movie. It’s hilarious.

“Lean on Pete” Trailer, Movie Clips, and Poster

Written for the screen and directed by Andrew Haigh, Lean on Pete is based on the book of the same title by Willy Vlautin. The movie follows a teenage boy, played by Charlie Plummer, who makes friends with an aging quarter horse, named Lean on Pete while working at a racetrack. They hit the road together when the horse is intended for the slaughterhouse.

Together they take an epic journey across the modern frontier – an American odyssey. The boy and horse are profoundly bonded.  The movie studies themes of loneliness and finding a connection in unexpected places.

The movie includes a stellar cast with Steve Buscemi, Chole Sevigny, Travis Fimmel, and Steve Zahn.

I am curious, though, how each act plays out in the movie. It is clear that the journey is the second act.  The second act is the toughest to write and seems to be the bulk of the story.

This clip shows a buddy relationship and an old, worn out relationship.

This clip shows that something is going down and it is not good for the horse.

The movie trailer offers a clear understanding of what the movie is about.

“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” Trailers and Poster

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation follows Mavis who surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury monster cruise ship so he can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. Of course, the rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist tagging along.

The monsters are all having a great time, indulging in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to colossus sized buffets and exotic excursions, but then the unexpected happens as Drac falls for the intriguing-yet-dangerous captain of the ship. Balancing family, friends and a budding romance might just be too much, even for the most powerful vampire.

The movie is filled with stellar voices by Adam Sandler (Dracula), Andy Samberg (Johnny), Selena Gomez (Mavis), Kevin James (Frank), Fran Drescher (Eunice), Steve Buscemi (Wayne), Molly Shannon (Wanda), David Spade (Griffin), Keegan-Michael Key (Murray) and Mel Brooks (Vlad).

The movie trailer tells us more about the movie, which the kids will totally enjoy. Very clever facial expressions and personalities will draw them to the movie.

“The Boss Baby” Trailer

Directed by Tom McGrath, The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival affects a family, told from a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7-year-old named Tim.

He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy with a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family. The Boss Baby looks hilarious and should appeal to the entire family.

Here is a clip from the movie. Looking funny.
